Leif was born in 1943 and grew up in Connecticut and Oregon. He got first got involved with boats while living on the Columbia River in his youth. He spent a number of summers in Alaska fishing and fixing boats, and some time working at Fishermans Terminal in Seattle before moving to Port Townsend in the early 1970s with his soon-to-be wife Joan. He was one of the founders of the Port Townsend Shipwrights Co-op. We talk about the boats he built, working as a shipwright in Alaska, what Port Townsend was like in the 70’s and 80’s, one of his boats almost sinking in Coos Bay, being dyslexic, the Shipwright’s Co-op, and much more.

A couple of Leif’s photo from the early days of the Co-op.
